Easter 2013 was a success!
My weekend started off on Saturday morning with lots of shopping for the Easter dinner; I was hosting for my entire family at my house. My mom, sister and I headed out at 10 am to start our long day of shopping and cooking. We first went out to the Honey Baked Ham store to pick up our ham's. Can I give you all a warning out there. Don't believe the people at the Honey Baked Ham store about "how many people per ham". I bought a 5 pound boneless ham and my mom purchased a 4 pound boneless ham. We were clueless about how much each one fed. We told them we had 18 people coming over and were told, "Oh yeah, these 2 ham's will be a perfect amount for you all!" We were expecting leftovers, but man not that many leftovers......
We stopped at Steak n Shake for lunch. It was delicious as always but I always feel like crap after eating there. I wish it wasn't as greasy at it is.
Here is a photo of my sister and I waiting for our food.
The next store we went to was Target for my mom to get some Easter goodies for Jackson and Claire. I was surprised that Target wasn't as busy. I was expecting a hoard of people in there. The Easter aisle was pretty picked over, but they still had some choices for Easter baskets. We ended up making our own baskets for them, which we prefer. :)
After Target was the Grocery store, Dierbergs. My favorite one here in Saint Louis. It may cost more than the other stores, but I really prefer their produce and meat selection over anyone else's. Plus, they have an organic aisle and that's where I can pick my Chia seeds up at. I did find though that they are always sold out on the weekends of the Chia seeds so if you need some, get them during the week. Next time, I will pick some up on Amazon. Amazon Prime is AMAZING if you ask me. :)
When I came home, I decided to start pre-making/making what I could of the food for tomorrow. I made the bunny cake (Jena requested), cookie-cheesecake bars (Andy requested), and the green bean casserole. After shopping and cooking all day, I finally sat down at 7 pm and was exhausted.
The next morning I was at it with cleaning and cooking. I finished icing the bunny cake, made the strawberry pretzel dessert, made mashed potatoes and my favorite mac n cheese. I even took the time to take Keeley on a walk around the neighborhood since it turned out to be such a nice day. The temperature got up to around 70 degrees!
Everyone came over around 3pm and we ate around 4pm. In all, I think the food turned out great! I was very pleased with how it all turned out. Stupid me forgot to take a photo of the whole food spread.....
