Couch to 5K.....again!

I am back on the working out wagon again and as you can tell by my posting title, Couch to 5K is also back.  Reason being:  my sister and I are officially signed up for the Komen Race for the Cure in Saint Louis.  When I say we are officially signed up, I mean we entered in as timed runners.  {Eyes wide open in fright}.  What have I gotten myself into.....

Last week I started in the gym again training on the treadmill.  I had decided to take photos of my distance and times each time I completed a day of training so that I could get if I was getting better throughout my course.

Wednesday, 5/15

Friday, 5/17

Monday, 5/20

Day four of training is today, and I am not going to lie, I have NO motivation to go to the gym today......so sleepy!!  All I want to do is put jammies on when I get home and watch TV all night.....BUUUUUUT we all know that I cannot do that.  So, to the gym I must go!

C25K - Day 2

Today was day 2 of running the Couch to 5K.  I came home from work and immediately changed into my workout clothes.  I knew if I didn't change, I wouldn't get the motivation to work out.  I waited for Andy to come home from work around 5pm and nagged him until he finally got changed to run.  Yup, I was that wife today!  :)  We ran/walked the 2 miles in 32 minutes.  A bit slower than the first day, but we were both a bit sore from the first day of training.

I had NO desire to make dinner after working out so off to Taco Bell we went for dinner.  Yes, not a good choice, but I did think about what I was going to eat and I think I did well.

He's what I ended up with:

Half of a Chicken Quesadilla (2 slices, split with Andy) - 260 calories
Chicken Fresco Soft Taco - 150 calories
Small Tortilla Chips with Guacamole - 302.5 calories
Water: 0 calories
Total:  712.5 calories

Looking at the tortilla chips with guac, not such a good idea, but I've been really good lately about eating, so I guess a little splurge won't hurt too much!  :)  I'll just be more aware the next time we go to not get the chips.  Total for the guacamole in calories is 35 so that isn't too bad, its the chips which are fried.  :(

Here is what I normally would get at Taco Bell:

Whole Chicken Quesadilla - 520 calories
1 Hard Taco Supreme - 200 calories
1 Cinnamon Twist - 170 calories
1 Large Mango Strawberry Fruista - 300 calories
Total:  1190 calories

So I cut 477.5 calories from my normal meal to my new diet meal, so GO ME!  :)

We also walked around Walmart for about an hour last night too, so my exercize for the day was really good!

Tomorrow, I plan on walking the dog around the neighborhood.  Not over extensive, but better than sitting on my butt all day!  I've got to let my muscles rest a little bit so I don't over do it.

C25K - Day 1

I came home yesterday determined more than ever to start the Couch to 5K challenge.  At work I made a mistake by only eating a salad for lunch.  A salad with just carrots and tomatoes in it, no protein.  Well my body wasn't so happy with me after a couple hours because my blood sugar decided to drop like no other.  I became shaky and just didn't feel good.  Before I left work, I had half of a Chobani - Vanilla Chocolate Chunk yogurt.  Why half you ask?  Because, its a big container that has 2 servings to it.  Can I just add that, "Oh my goodness this was SO DELICIOUS!!!!"  I had my doubt's but was it ever delicious!!  If you are a sweets fanatic like me, go out and try this!  I think my ice cream love has just turned over to Greek yogurt!  Fine by me, its healthier and really tasty!!

When I did get home after work, I still didn't feel good after eating the yogurt; but I wanted to get my first day of running in, so my husband and I split a protein shake.  That made me feel 100% better.  The run went well with us.  He downloaded the Couch to 5K app and had it on his phone.  The apps tells him when to run and walk and I would follow along with him.  Only twice did I think I was going to die.....OK that's an exaggeration, but man it hurt!!  My lungs were burning and my legs felt like blocks of concrete.  I kept myself going by thinking about the show, "Biggest Loser".  I kept telling myself, if they can do it, then I can.  It helped having my husband running with me because it kept me motivated to keep going.  We were all over our neighborhood, hills included.  Our total mileage was 2 miles in 30 minutes.  So about 15 minutes per mile. Slow, yes, but good for my first day!!  I couldn't believe we went 2 miles!!!

Today is a day off from C25K, but I plan on walking Keeley around the neighborhood after work and we're going to Sams to shop, so we will get some walking in there also.

I'm also being very cautious on the amount of food I consume at each meal along with the nutritious value in it.  Yes, I know that every meal wont be perfect with nutrition, but I am making a cautious decisions on how much I eat also.  My thoughts are split everything in half except for veggies and fresh fruit.  My drink of choice:  water.  Lots, and lots of water!!

Changes

May 2012 was the best month this year by far!  Not only did I get to marry my best friend, but I got the chance I was finally looking for.  I finally got a job in the Human Resources field.  I am forever greatful for the opportunily I received at Micro Center, but it was retail.  It wasnt the job I really was looking for.  I wanted that job in an office that wasnt retail.  Why I wanted a desk job, is beyond me, but I just really wanted to use my expensive piece of paper that I worked so hard for, 6 years! (My bachelors degree).

When I worked at Micro Center, I was working for 10 hours a day, which means I was on my feet for a good 9+ hours a day, wether it be walking or standing.  I took my current DESK JOB and walk maybe 30 minutes a day….an hour and a half on a good day.  That is nothing!  If I even dare to sit on the couch, ok lets be honest, if I lay down on the couch after working, I’d fall asleep…..I wasn’t active, I was lazy and exhaused from doing nothing when it comes to working out and was started to see the pounds accumluate.  I am not happy and a bit sad, I want to be proud of myself and set a goal for myself.  I am getting older and have found that I don’t have a lot to do right now at my age, especially with no kids, YET…..so why not do something for myself by getting in better shape before I start with kids so I can maintain a better lifestyle during and after pregnancy.  Again, I am NOT pregnant YET.  Haha!

Today, October 8th, 2012, I am going to set myself on the following goal:

COUCH TO 5K in 9 WEEKS

Now wether I will be able to run a real 5K race this year is questionable because I decided to start this in October and the weather in Missouri will start to get cold, but I am going to do this.

Here is the following workout regemine I am setting for myself this week:

Monday: Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five-minute walk to cool down.

Tuesday: Walk Keeley (my dog) around the neighborhood.

Wednesday: Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five-minute walk to cool down.

Thursday: Walk Keeley (my dog) around the neighborhood.

Friday: Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five-minute walk to cool down.

Saturday: Walk Keeley (my dog) around the neighborhood.

Sunday: Off day

Wish me luck!
